What is a moving sand art?
A moving sand art is a visual and interactive art. Moving sand art are made with different coloured sand, air and a water solution in between two glass panels. The combination and perfect balance of all these elements is what creates the beautiful landscapes. When you turn your moving sand art upside down, the sand will naturally fall and the air bubbles rise. The air bubbles create a barrier that stops the sand from falling all to the bottom. Gravity will allow the sand to find the tiny gaps in between the air bubbles, and by falling gently in very small amounts it creates the attractive sandscapes. A different sandscape will form with every turn depending on how these elements come together.
I received my sand art and the sand is stuck, even where there is no air bubbles?
Sometimes during transportation or even when your sand art has not been turned for a long time, the sand will compact and stick together, this is normal. To fix this you need to loosen the sand by removing all the air in the sand art (only air, never water) then turn your sand art a few times maybe 4 to 5 times until the sand flows freely, initially you may need to gently tap the glass to help it loosen. Once the sand flows freely, add air according to the air template guide and the size of your sand art, wait a few minutes then it ready to be used.
How to turn my sand art correctly
If you have a free standing or a bubble (round) sand art, flip the sand art towards you, by grabbing the sand art by both sides and flipping it straight, this way the bubbles will rise evenly to create a barrier and stop the sand from falling quickly.
If you have a wall mounted sand art, just turn it, as you would be turning a wheel.
Will the colours mix?
The sand does not mix, on occasions when the sand inside the moving sand art falls too quickly or when transported from one place to another, it may cause the sand colours to temporarily mix together, however, the different sand colours will always separate again when flipped over and the sand falls correctly again.
How long does it take for the sand to completely fall?
It depends, it can take anywhere between 5 minutes to several hours. The size of the moving sand art will influence the duration, larger ones take longer to complete its cycle. The amount of air inside will also have an impact on the duration, more air will slow the flow of the sand, therefore making it last longer. Sometimes it will just depend on how the elements came together. If you let your moving sand art rest in between turns for few minutes, the sand will have time to settle at the bottom, slowing down the sand flow. This is normal, every turn will be different.
Why has the sand in my moving sand art stopped falling?
It is most likely that your moving sand art has too much air, use your care instructions to regulate the amount of air inside.
Why does the sand in my sand art fall too fast?
Sometime this will happen, it’s normal, not every turn will form mountain peaks, sometimes it will form dunes and/or valleys. This is due to the way the sand has settled on the previous turn, for example, if the sand fell and settled in an even line, the chances of mountains forming is high, however if the sand settles unevenly, then most likely it will fall quickly until it evens out. Slow falling sand creates mountains, fast falling sand creates dunes.
If the sand continuously falls quickly after many turns and only forming dunes, then you may not have enough air in your moving sand art, place your air guide template and check the amount of air and regulate as necessary.
Why do I need to regulate the air?
You need to regulate the air because it is natural for air to either escape or enter from the microscopic gaps that exist in the silicon sealant, how often? this will depend on environmental factors and how often you turn your sand art.
How do I regulate the air in my sand art?
